Picture of the week
Geography is all around us, it is on the news, in the papers and just lurking around waiting for you to ask the right questions! Be curious, ask questions, try to understand the world in which you live.
SonyPencoed
SonyPencoed has been a major geographical feature of Pencoed since most of us can remember. It is a Transnational Corperation (TNC) that comes from Japan. It has employed over a thousand people from the area in the factory and many more in the factories that supply it with components and materials.
In geography we learn about TNCs at GCSE and AS/A2 level. We learn about why they choose to locate (set up) in a particular location, where they are located around the world and what impacts they have (good and bad) on a particular location. We are experiencing one of the main problems associated with TNCs at the moment - decisions made a long way away have enormous impacts (job loses).
